Tryout Schedule

Ladies and gentlemen, we are excited to announce the dates for the 2015-16 Tryout Season for UW Cheer & Dance! The planned schedules for the 2015-16 tryouts are below. The schedule is subject to change at the coaches’ and judges’ discretion. Any and all updates will be listed on UWSpirit.com.  All scoring and decisions are final.

 

UW DANCE SCHEDULE (The schedule is subject to change at the coaches’ discretion)

Day 1: Thursday, April 30th — 5 p.m. check in

Day 1 of tryouts will consist of three stations that are happening simultaneously. You will be placed in a group of four and rotate through all stations.

 

Station 1: Technique — Each across the floor combo will be done individually and the turning combination will be done in your group of four. Be prepared to do each combination several times.

  • Across the Floor Combo #1 (front, back)
  • Across the Floor Combo #2 (front, back)
  • Turning Combination (front, back)

Station 2: Solo Home Routine — You will perform your solo home routine individually to music selected by the coaching staff.

  • 5 non-repeating 8-counts
  • Style of choice
  • Include technique (turns, leap, etc.)

Station 3: Motions — The sideline chant and sideline dance will be performed in your group of four. Be prepared to do the chant and dance several times.

*Jazz/Hip Hop Routine is taught to all candidates who are invited back for finals.

 

Day 2: Saturday, May 2 — 3 p.m. check in

Jazz/Hip Hop Routine

  • Perform routine learned on Day 1 in groups of four
  • Be prepared to do the routine several times

Surprise Husky Routine

  • After cuts are made, a routine in UW Husky Style will be taught to all finalists
  • Finalist will have 30 minutes to practice the routine
  • Routine will be performed in groups of four
  • Be prepared to do the routine several times
  • Individual Interview

Final team will be announced via UWSpirit.com on Sunday evening. The first practice is Monday, May 4 in the evening, time TBD.

 

 

UW CHEER SCHEDULE (The schedule is subject to change at the coaches’ discretion)

Day 1: Friday, May 1 — 5 p.m. check in

Day 1 of tryouts will consist of three categories: tumbling, stunting and solo home routine.

 

Category 1: Tumbling — Standing and running tumbling will be done individually within the larger group. For standing tumbling, candidates will get one try for each skill. At the end of showing all skills, candidates may choose to redo only one of the three skills if necessary. For running tumbling, each candidate with throw their most difficult pass.

  • Standing Back Handspring
  • Standing Back Tuck
  • Standing Back Handspring Back Tuck
  • Most difficult running tumbling pass

 

Category 2: Solo Home Routine — You will perform your solo home routine individually to music selected by the coaching staff.

  • 5 non-repeating 8-counts
  • Style of choice
  • Include a tumbling element (back handspring/back tuck)

 

Category 3: Stunting Technique — Each candidate will show their stunt technique by performing their most advanced stunt of the four listed below. The stunt chosen should be where you are solid — a clean hands will score higher than an extension that falls. A candidate may only be used three times, i.e., a female may partner with only three different males.

  • Toss
  • Toss Chair
  • Toss Hands
  • Toss Extension

  • Coach ability
  • Ability to keep good technique with several different partners
  • Attitude
  • Improvement

Day 2: Sunday, May 3 — 11 a.m. check in

Day 2 of tryouts will consist of four categories: interview, sideline dance, sideline chant and advanced stunting.

 

Category 1: Interview — You will be interviewed by the coaching staff and judging panel. Please be ready to explain all details submitted with your application.

 

Category 2: Sideline Dance — The sideline dance will be performed in a group of four. Be prepared to do the dance several times with different ripples. Males will not participate in this category.

Category 3: Sideline Chant — The sideline chant will be performed in a group of four. Be prepared to do the chant several times.

  • Sideline Chant (back)

 

Category 4: Advanced Stunting — A candidate may only be used three times, i.e., a female may partner with only three different males.

  • Each candidate will throw their two most difficult stunts
  • Avoid lengthy combinations — we are looking for the highest difficulty of singular stunts
  • Dismounts may be included (full down/double down)
  • Variety is encouraged
  • Showing flexibility (stretch, overstretch, scorpion, arabesque, etc) is encouraged
